It's 1941, as as German bombs fall on London, 14-year-old Nick Freestone's mother thinks he would be better off living with his father on the family's teak plantation in Burma. Soon after his arrival in Burma, the Japanese invade. Nick, his new friend Mya, and a well-repsected monk manage a daring escape through the jungle on elephant back. Filled with danger, surprising plot twists, and suspense, Elephant Run is an exciting historical adventure in which readers will learn about World War II and quite a bit about how timber elephants are trained.

Liam Digby is so tall, he can pass for an adult. He learns of an experimental "thrill ride" set in China, and applies to be one of the dads to escort a child to the ride. First, he needs to convince his friend Florida to masquerade as his daughter. When Liam and Florida arrive in China (while telling their parents they are on a school trip) they find out that the "Rocket" ride is a real rocket! As implausible as the premise of the story is, Cosmic is a fun and suspenseful read.

Melody has cerebral palsy, and that is all people know about her. They assume that she has no thoughts or opinions of her own. Her parents know there is a sharp mind trapped in that twisted body. Melody's life begins to change when she begins inclusion classes, and when she gets a keyboard that enables her to speak. Everyone knows how intelligent she is, and she earns a spot on the school's Whiz Kids team. An unthinking oversight on the part of team's manager makes Melody miss the finals in Washington, D.C. Readers will share Melody's terror when she tries to warn her mother of a dangerous situation, but cannot. Melody is a compelling protagonist, and readers will likely take away from the book an understanding of the fortitude required to overcome disabilities.
