Son is the fourth book in The Giver series. It's the story of Claire and her son the baby Gabe (the baby Jonas saves in The Giver). Claire is a Birthmother. The job is to breed babies. After giving birth she's sent to another job but they forget to have her start taking pills that suppress emotions like other people in the society so now her brain is more alert and she searches for answers about the baby she delivered. She finds out that he's not thriving and he's going to be put to sleep. Before she can get to him Jonas saves him and leaves the village (from The Giver book). She tries to follow on a supply boat and is shipwrecked. She's rescued by people from another village and decides to climb the cliff to continue her search. At the top of the cliff she meets an evil trader who will take her to her son but wants her youth so he turns her into an old woman. The last part of the book shows Gabe/Gabriel older and has the power to see into people's minds a little and learning Claire is his mom and what the evil Trademaster did to her. Jonas tells him they need to kill Trademaster so Gabriel goes into Trademaster's mind and sees that he loves seeing people suffer. He tells him the people who were suffering aren't suffering anymore and it kills Trademaster and they are all free from the evil.

I like this book very much. I liked learning more about the process of braces. I enjoyed being able to connect with the character because I have braces too and I was a girl scout. I felt bad when Raina fell and hurt her teeth and had to get braces because she really didn't enjoy them very much. I would recommend this book to any kid who plans on having braces, to help them understand the process better.

This book is definately a page turner. It is a murder mystery that ties all of the murders together. There is a lot of foreshadowing that helps you follow along with what is happening in the book.

I love books about future societies and this was another great story about a girl who lives in a world where the society tells them what to do what to wear what to eat who to marry. They even monitor dreams. In this story Cassia like all other kids her age is matched to her best friend Xander who the society believes is perfect for her. The problem I'd she finds out they also accidentally matched her to Ky who isn't allowed to be matched. She ends up feeling more and more for Ky even though she knows it's wrong and she and Ky fall in love only to be ripped away from each other when he'd sent away to fight in the war because he broke rules. After he's taken away everyone who was there when it happened is told to take a pill they all carry and they all forget everything that happened except for Xander because pills don't work on him and Cassia because she only pretended to take it.
