This book is about kids who have to travel to another world to save their father with the help of a friend. The world where all kids were playing exactly the same was creepy. They all were in time except for one kid who wasn't supposed to be different. They finally find their dad but he's being held prisoner by an evil darkness that takes over planets and their planet is next. Working together to fight the darkness they finally make it go away for now and they all get to go home.

I like this book very much. I liked learning more about the process of braces. I enjoyed being able to connect with the character because I have braces too and I was a girl scout. I felt bad when Raina fell and hurt her teeth and had to get braces because she really didn't enjoy them very much. I would recommend this book to any kid who plans on having braces, to help them understand the process better.

This is my favorite book! I love the character Jonas because he is very unique. I like the character The Giver because he is very set apart from the rest of The Community and you always want to learn more about him. I think it is sad that there are no emotions or colors in the community and that everyone is exactly the same. Finally, I love the bond between Jonas and Gabriel.

Gathering Blue

Review
Gathering Blue is the second book in the Giver series. It's about a girl Kira who is given the job of repairing a special robe for The Council. She has a deformed leg so without this job she would've been left outside of the village to die so it's a really important job. She learns how to dye threads different colors (except nobody knows how to make the color blue) and embroider the robe to help tell the story of the village over the years. As time goes on she realized that everything isn't add it seems and The Council is controlling the lives of everyone.

Review
This book is definitely a page turner! Tying together political corruption, advances in the biomedical field, and mob bosses is not a typical combination. Robin Cook brings it all together very well. With some rather graphic descriptions of gore and a some explicit language this book is not for those with a weak stomach.
